Progress Feels So Good

I can see the progression each every day.  Sunday I had a pretty good day getting out and walking around.  I was able to leave the house and actually go serve at Manna.  It is always great to get together with our serve team at Manna.  They are much like our family.

After Service was over and I came home I was able to get outside for a walk in some nice weather.

If it wasn't for the walker I would have felt like I was walking pretty naturally.  Considering it has only been 9-days post surgery I am pretty happy with this walk.  Later that evening after having a few visitors we left the house to go grocery shopping.  I was excited about that because I was able to get a scooter in the store and embarrass my lovely wife.  Even to the point I was making child like race car noises.  Vroooom Vrooom.

Mission accomplished.  She was embarrassed.

Today, Monday the knee has been a little bit more swollen than it has been, but yesterday was a busy day.  Off for another walk at lunch time at about the same distance as yesterday.  Just after lunch the Physical Therapist showed up.  I like this lady over the one that was here last week.  This lady explained everything and walked me though what I should be doing daily at help reduce the swelling and things that I can do to help reduce the pain to help me get off the pain meds.  I wish I knew some of this information last week.  I would have tried it already.  So the new mission is to get off the narcotics by the end of the week.

We went through several exercise and she was happy with where I am at this point in my recovery.  Further along than most patience at 10-days post surgery.  She will return again on Wednesday and Friday this week.  Looking forward to getting rid of this walker and starting to "run" with a can.

Since I am looking at having knee replacement after NC 70.3 I am interested to know what was your Doc's take on you running again? Especially longer distances. Did your Doc use cement or no? Thanks

I really haven't discussed with the surgeon. However, he does know that I am a triathlete and a coach and will start running again. Unfortunately my surgeon will be relocating and I will not see him again. I have discussed with my in home Physical Therapist. I know people that do run after their TKR. She knows people that run after TKR. My surgeon did not use cement. Simply for the reason that I will probably need another one based on my age and my activity level.

A big shout out to David Boyer. Since starting my work with David, I have improved in all areas. I thought running two races in two days this weekend would be a challenge. David gave me a plan (which I tried to follow) and I actually felt stronger on day two on a longer more difficult course. But for some goggle/contact lens issues during the swim, I might have gotten on the podium. Still have a lot of work to do before IM Florida but this weekend has given me a boost in confidence. Thanks Coach!

...my coach David Boyer who is not only a Great coach, but a Godly person who texts me scriptures of encouragement at 4:30 in the morning before the race because he knows I've been up stressing about the swim! Thanks to you all I forever grateful!!!

Love Tri_More_Fitness coaching!!! just got an unexpected race day report breaking down the good, the not so good and the just plain ugly (ah, it wasn't that bad) LOVE getting great, solid, very detailed and constructive feedback. Totally looking forward to continuing to grow in the sport...so much room for growth and progress. My only problem is I want that progress like right now, immediately.
